During 2021, “Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center” CJSC has successfully carried out the identification of disused and orphan radioactive sources used in the following organizations: Institute of Physical Research of NAS RA, Institute of Ecologonospheric Research of NAS RA, Cardiology Research Institute, National Polytechnic University of Armenia, National Institute of Metrology Found radioactive sources of National Institute of Metrology were recovered and securely transported to “Rendering Harmless of Radioactive Waste” CJSC for safe storage. In total, more than 80 radioactive sources from the above-mentioned organizations were identified and recovered.
On October 2021, Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center CJSC successfully dismantled and recovered “Gyumri Oncology Dispensary” CJSC disused teletherapy and brachytherapy sources containing Co60 radioactive isotopes. Sources were securely transferred to “Rendering Harmless of Radioactive Waste” CJSC (RADON) for safe storage.
“Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center” CJSC continues to actively participate in the process of raising the level of radiation safety in Armenia. For this purpose, it is continuously implemented: recovery of disused radioactive sources, identification and recovery of radioactive sources that are exempted from regulatory control, design of environmental radiation monitoring network in Armenia, installation and commissioning of monitoring stations.
